The Monkey’s Raincoat - Journeys Through Japan
Inspired by Matsuo Basho’s 1691 anthology by the same name ‘Sarumino - The Monkey’s Raincoat”- David captures the emblematic scenes of Japan through the Haiku’s and poetry of Basho and his students. As Basho once said “The journey itself is my home”, through ‘The Monkey’s Raincoat”, David calls his three year long journey through the vastness of the Japanese archipelago home. Through this journey he reflects on the passage of time, the unchanging, familiar, yet unrecognizable landscapes of Japan throughout the seasons. Flowing through the country’s rich history, profound shadows and immeasurable wisdom. Similarly to a Haiku, David invites you to interpret, reflect and journey through Japan with him.
